River Phoenix would have been 37, had he lived to see today. Instead, he died of an accidental drug overdose/heart failure in 1993, at the age of 23. (I was watching the news that night, devastated!)

When I was looking for today’s celebrity birthdays, I noticed that not one, but TWO of them are former Losties, from the hit ABC series “LOST.” In light of that, I recalled that while I was on vacation in early August, two more cast members celebrated birthdays, as well. The original “Material Girl” turns 49 today, and she’s showing off her M by Madonna clothing line from H&M in the above photo!
No matter what you think of her today, Madonna is called the “Queen of Pop” for a reason. She paved the way for some of today’s female pop stars, from her catchy pop tunes in the early 80’s to her groundbreaking and controversial musial moves in the 90’s.
Madonna is a cultural icon, no denying that. And it’s hard for the 80’s girl in me to believe that she’s one year away from turning 50!
