Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione in the Harry Potter series of films, turned 18 yesterday, April 15. Most teens are excited to officially become adults and gain voting rights, but for Emma, this means having access to the $20 million she’s garnered thus far from the Harry Potter movie franchise.
Oh, and she had strawberries and Nutella for her birthday breakfast. Yum!
The NY Daily News reports that Emma’s parents are making sure she doesn’t blow through all the millions in one place.
Watson has sat through a series of lessons in money management given by Coutts bank, the Daily Mail reports. She’s reportedly learned about basic economics, investing, and philanthropy.
If you love Emma’s work, you can also catch her in the made-for-TV movie Ballet Shoes, as well as the upcoming feature film The Tale of Despereaux, based on the book by Kate DiCamillo.
Emma, in full Harry Potter costume, had a special video message posted on her official website (hint: the “Happy Birthday Emma” tag on the right-hand side of her plant graphic, right below the birthday cake). Click under the cut to view the video off of her site, and a written transcription.
In case of viewing problems, here’s what she said (thanks to HarryPottersPage for transcription):
Hello everyone at EmmaWatsonOfficial! Today I am 18! I can’t actually believe it, it’s so exciting. I just wanted to send you a message to thank you so much for all of your birthday wishes and I’m so touched that you’re all thinking of me. I’m just having such a great day — I’ve just been changed and through hair and make-up. I’m here in my dressing room at Leavesden. I’ve just had my breakfast, strawberries and Nutella, before I go down to set; I’m just having such a good day. Lots of love!
